I got a mystery box in the mail today. Addressed to “June M. Spine Matics” from “A Lava Field.”
While I have not gotten mail from a lava field before, I have gotten mysterious packages so I wasn’t alarmed by the warnings on the box.

I thought I had better open it with care.

Inside: treasure!
As I unpacked the box further I found myself, almost involuntarily, muttering “Oh my. Oh My! OH MY.”

For, as you can see, there was treasure indeed. Vertebrae! A whole spine! Huge, and clean and nearly articulated. I’m not sure what kind of animal it came from, but it is impressive. I can’t wait to display it properly.

EDIT: Now some light shed on its origin!

  1. A box of treasure, indeed! We like that round thing. Is it a sand dollar? Or maybe a leathery turtle egg? Looks like it would make a good cat toy. And is that the knife you cut your finger with? Meow!!! We hope that’s doing much better by now. Love & loud purring from us!

    • I’m not quite sure what it is–must be related to a sand dollar at least! The Victorinox is not the culprit–that was an xacto knife. The perils of being an art kid. It’s healing quite well, thank you <3
